Tarmac Kier JV wins £25m Barnet highways contract

Tarmac Kier JV awarded new £25m highways maintenance and improvements contract with the London Borough of Barnet.

The Tarmac Kier joint venture (JV) has been awarded a new highways maintenance and improvements contract with the London Borough of Barnet.

The new contract, valued at approximately £25m, will run from April 2021 for two and half years until September 2023 and has been appointed through Transport for London’s (TfL) Highways Maintenance and Projects Framework.

The JV is covering a 189km network of TfL roads in the north of the capital, and all 13 London boroughs in the area also have the option to directly access services through the framework, with Barnet being the first London borough contract that the JV has secured.

Peter Hyde, highways services director, at Tarmac said: “The award of this contract reflects our JV’s ability to work collaboratively with councils to deliver safe and sustainable maintenance and enhancements to critical highways networks across the capital. We’re looking forward to getting started and delivering a cost-effective, first-class service for Barnet and TfL that will help to cut congestion and increasingly support sustainable travel.”

James Birch, managing director of local highways at Kier Highways, said: “We are proud to have been given this opportunity to extend our service proposition in north London to Barnet Council and look forward to providing safe, efficient, and sustainable services to customers in the borough.”

Tarmac Kier is a 50-50 JV and the contract covers the delivery of highways maintenance and improvement services, including all reactive and planned pavement resurfacing schemes, as well as professional services.
