Finalists announced for European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards

The European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards has announced the finalists for its 2022 awards. The awards, now in its eighth year, is designed to find the most exemplary women within construction and engineering across Europe and is the most prestigious event celebrating the achievements of women in these sectors.

According to the Department of Civil & Building Engineering at Loughborough University, “the construction sector plays an important role in economic growth . . . however, the construction sector remains male-dominated and women’s growing role as decision-makers and buyers is not reflected by their input into construction innovation and creativity.”

Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9% of UK engineering professionals are women, 18% in Spain, 26% in Sweden and 20% in Italy.

The aim of the awards is to make the engineering and construction industries more enticing to women. To create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, while encouraging companies to employ and train more women in these industries.

The 2022 finalists for the European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards are drawn from some of the most well-known companies in the industry and cover a wide range of categories to represent all parts of the sector. The winners of the awards will be announced at the 2022 awards dinner which takes place on Thursday 26 May 2022 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster.
