Wavin awards XPO inbound logistics management

XPO and Wavin extend partnership.

XPO and Wavin have renewed and expanded their long-term partnership in the UK.

XPO, which provides innovative transport and logistics solutions in Europe, was recently awarded inbound raw materials logistics activities for plastic pipe system manufacturers Wavin in Wilton, near Middlesbrough. This extended XPO’s role to include the management of raw materials, in addition to site-to-site transport and end-customer distribution.

On 20 March, XPO began taking inbound receipt of raw materials into its warehouse in Wilton, where the materials are debagged, stored and prepared for transport — new services provided by XPO under the expanded agreement. From there, XPO deploys dedicated road fleet and drivers to transfer the materials to Wavin’s production site in Chippenham as needed. XPO also provides the outbound transport of finished pipe from Wavin plants in Chippenham and Doncaster to destinations throughout the UK, as well as arranging the transport and clearance of raw materials into the UK from Europe, Mexico and the US.

Dan Page, transport manager for UK and Ireland, Wavin, said: “Our decision to consolidate end-to-end supply chain management with one of our most trusted partners is already improving efficiency and visibility. XPO’s commitment to our collaboration ensures that we will have all the support we need for years to come.”

Products destined for Scotland travel from the Chippenham plant via XPO’s innovative rail-road combination. This multimodal solution can significantly lower both C02 emissions and NOx particles per trip. The process is managed from end to end by XPO's technology platform, which integrates all the company’s transport services for Wavin, including dedicated truckload, less-than-truckload, and a bespoke parcel delivery service.

Dan Myers, XPO’s managing director in UK and Ireland, said: “The expansion of our valued partnership is evidence of the joint efforts of the combined team and leverages the breadth of our service offering and end-to-end supply chain capability."

XPO’s services include technology-enabled truckload, less-than-truckload, truck brokerage, managed transport, last mile, and freight forwarding. The company tailors its solutions to customer-specific needs across a range of consumer, trade, and industrial sectors and world-class events.
