Forth Road Bridge celebrates its 50th anniversary with grand festival

Celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic Forth Road Bridge in Scotland kick off this week on Thursday 4th September and culminate on Saturday 13th September with a spectacular torch-lit parade and firework display.

The finale to the celebrations will see 2,014 torch-bearers form a kilometre-long river of fire across the bridge to Fife before returning to a giant ‘Bridge Party’ in South Queensferry. 

With the bridge closed to traffic from 10pm, the fireworks display will commence at 10.06 precisely in recognition of the structure’s 1,006m main span allowing the bridge to reopen at 10.30 ahead of a giant outdoor ceilidh – the “Forth Fling” – to complete the party.

The ten day celebration will include a range of bridge focussed activities including:

• Queensferry rowing challenge
• Mark your spot with special "love lock"
• Scrapbook Exhibition - “By the Bridges” 
• Biker rally – 2014 bikes crossing the Forth
• Flotilla on the Forth – a multitude of vessels passing beneath the bridges
• “Memories of a bridge workers” exhibition – the working life of an engineer revealed
• Art trail exhibition
• “Scotland welcomes the world to lunch” event
