AECOM’s CEO and COO step down from top UK roles

AECOM's UK and Ireland (UKI) chief executive, David Barwell and UKI chief operating officer Bill Quarterman have both stepped down from their roles at the head of the company. Barwell will remain with AECOM until the end of the year to support the company on a number of tasks and then leave bringing to an end an association with the company spanning more than 25 years.

Barwell took on the CEO role for the UK and Ireland in October 2017.  He has been replaced by Colin Wood, who takes over as chief executive. Quarterman has been chief operating officer in the UK for just over two years, having spent eight years with the company. He previously worked for Galliford Try. A replacement chief operating officer has yet to be announced by AECOM.

A spokesperson for AECOM said: “We can confirm that David Barwell has stepped down as chief executive of the UK and Ireland (UKI) business, Colin Wood will take on the role of chief executive of the UKI effective immediately.

“Colin Wood joined AECOM in 2017, and immediately made a positive impact on the performance of AECOM’s UKI civil infrastructure business.  Since then he has led AECOM’s civil infrastructure business across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and most recently been the chief capability officer for EMEA. Prior to AECOM, Colin held significant senior leadership roles in the public and private sector working for clients such as Transport for London and Heathrow.
