Lifetime achievement award win for Faithful+Gould director

Rod Whiting, Faithful+Gould director and head of integrated project controls for Hinkley Point C.

Faithful+Gould director Rod Whiting has been presented with the Global Project Controls Lifetime Achievement Award.

Whiting, who is also head of integrated project controls for Hinkley Point C, collected the honour at the Project Controls Expo Awards.

The lifetime achievement award recognises individuals who are looked upon by the project controls (PC) community as a major contributor to maturing aspects of the professionalism of the practice, being a ‘go-to’ person as well as an educator and mentor.

Having started out as a trainee quantity surveyor with Faithful+Gould almost 40 years ago, Whiting recognised the power of integrated project controls early in his career.

He has since driven the application and recognition of the profession throughout his career.

Playing a key role with ACostE for more than 20 years, Whiting has significantly contributed to the functional council – supporting the need to drive and develop a professional qualification and standard in PC as part of the ECITB apprenticeship programme.

Whiting also played a key role in the PC of the QCF (formally NVQ) process – now a recognised qualification in the profession.

He is an active member of the ACostE, presenting to members, organising events and reviewing documents driving forward PC.

He has also advocated for and inspired the project controls community on multiple occasions; through presentations, articles, document reviews, mentoring and training.

Whiting has undertaken many projects mentoring clients in maximising the use of project controls, integrating systems, disciplines and through transformational work.

He has applied the PC profession across a range of industries including nuclear, oil and gas, renewables, steel, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.

Adam Brooks, director at Faithful+Gould, said: “Rod excelled in his roles from day one. His knowledge and expertise were recognised and his influence on project controls expanded across European sites with associated recognition through awards.

"Throughout his career Rod has attracted resource at all levels into project controls, leading and growing an exceptional team throughout his career with Faithful+Gould clients and the majority remain in the industry delivering project controls.

“We, as Faithful+Gould, and the project controls community are blessed that Rod chose PC as his vocation and it has been a pleasure to work with him for nearly 40 years and in turn create an enduring friendship.”
