Low-cost homebuilder BoKlok agrees terms for its first three UK sites

Sustainable and low-cost home provider BoKlok, jointly owned by Skanska and IKEA, has announced the exchange of contracts on its first three UK developments.

BoKlok is a home ownership concept from Sweden, owned by Skanska and IKEA. A developer of residential communities with more than 20 years experience, they have so far developed around 12,000 homes in Sweden, Finland and Norway.

Described as a milestone for the UK arm of its business, which launched in 2019, the company’s first three development sites across the south and south-west of England are in Worthing, Bristol and Peacehaven. Together these sites will provide around 400 homes, subject to planning permission.

Most of the homes will be for market sale while a portion will be sold to local authorities and housing associations, to be part of their social housing schemes.

BoKlok homes are completed using modern methods of construction. This, says the company, enables high quality, low and predictable costs and minimum waste. The completed homes are manufactured off-site and feature IKEA fittings. They are then transported to the construction site for assembly.

The first developments are expected to complete in 2021.
