The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) has today launched the 2022 Top Women in Engineering Awards and are now inviting nominations from right across the industry.

In association with The Guardian, the 2022 Top 50 Women in Engineering Awards celebrate "the inventors and innovators who can #ImagineTheFuture, the amazing women in engineering, who identify an unmet need, then create the solution, or improve on existing products and processes to make peoples’ lives easier".

The nominations opened on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, to those women engineers who have created or improved a product or process, particularly if this supports sustainability and/or combats climate change and supported other women to do the same.

The winners are announced as part of the official WES event for its flagship campaign International Women In Engineering Day on 23 June 2022 and winners attend a dedicated celebratory event in recognition of their achievements on the same day.

The WE50 timescale is:

  • 11 February 2022: #WE50 Nominations open
  • 28 March 2022: 12 noon #WE50 nominations close
  • 5 May 2022: #WE50 winners notified
  • 23 June 2022: #WE50 winners announced

A WES spokesperson said: “The team at WES are asking the public for their help in uncovering the most inspiring female inventors and innovators working in engineering today. Self-nomination is both welcomed and encouraged, as presenting the very best role models of today will encourage future generations of women and girls to consider engineering as a career and help redress the gender imbalance in the discipline.”
