A Who’s Who of business in the north to gather at Northern Powerhouse event

A major, high-profile conference and exhibition in Manchester on 25-26 February will see the largest gathering of business leaders dedicated to the Northern Powerhouse following the government’s Autumn Statement last year when the chancellor set out the government’s plans for growing the economy of the region.

UK Northern Powerhouse is supported by the chief executives of all the major cities of the north of England, many of whom are speaking at the event, and is backed by the chairman of all the local enterprise partnerships. The event, at Manchester Central, will be a chance for business leaders to offer their response to George Osborne’s proposals for a devolved north and show how business can shape the agenda.

The programme for the conference, which reads like a Who's Who of business in the north, include high-level representatives of every major local authority in the region as well as business leaders from every key sector including transport and infrastructure, power, finance, investment, property, tech, science and research. Leading politicians will also be on hand to offer their views and insights.

The urban North is too scattered to become a powerhouse economy unless new infrastructure is built through the Pennine Divide to bring the cities of East Lancs and West Yorks time-nearer each other. HS2 will not do that. See Northern Cities Crossrail at https://hsnorthstart.wordpress.com
