Balfour Beatty JV scoops £289m luxury Hong Kong residential project

Balfour Beatty’s Far East joint venture has landed a £289m contract for a luxury residential scheme in Hong Kong which will involve the construction of six residential towers, a clubhouse, outdoor swimming pool, and a two-level basement with carpark areas.

The deal has been awarded by Gold Topmont Limited for Balfour’s 50:50 Far East joint venture, Gammon Construction to deliver the Homantin luxury residential project. It will become an iconic landmark in the prestigious Homantin residential area in Kowloon.

To ensure the project’s safe and efficient delivery Gammon will deploy a wide range of innovative technologies including 3D scanning for data collection, which will ensure an accurate and swift survey process, as well as defect management tools such as Drones and InfraRed Cameras.

Gammon has been working on the foundations of the project since 2017 with project completion expected in 2020. A workforce of 1,100 will be employed during peak construction.

Thomas Ho, chief executive of Gammon said, “After the successful completion of the foundation works we are delighted to be trusted to deliver the full completed works for the Homantin residential project. The successful delivery of schemes such as the Mount Nicholson and the Le Cap residential development is testament to Gammon’s experience in the construction of high-end residential buildings which require excellent craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail.”

The firm also say the wellbeing of the workforce will be safeguarded by the use of exoskeletons for manual handling to reduce physical strain and enhance productivity for repetitive tasks.
