Waterman appoints new leadership team for building services

Mark Terndrup, Jonathan Purcell and Steven Halmshaw have been appointed as the new leadership team for Waterman’s building services operation.

Waterman Group have confirmed the promotions of Mark Terndrup, Jonathan Purcell and Steven Halmshaw who, together, have been appointed as the new leadership team for their Building Services operation.

Terndrup, who has overseen the London region for 14 years and is well respected in the commercial office sector, steps up as managing director for south. He is known for taking a lead role in many of the company’s multidisciplinary projects such as One Angel Court, Clarges, Fen Court and The Esplanade Quarter, Jersey.

Purcell, previously in charge of the Nottingham office covering the Midlands, takes the role as managing director of north. Purcell champions well-being principles combined with low carbon solutions and he is most known for his award-winning design of the RIBA Sterling Prize winning Everyman Theatre in Liverpool. He also designed the NTU’s Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies.

Halmshaw, director of building services in Leeds, is known for his presence and experience in the public sector with an extensive portfolio covering the north. He joins the leadership team as board director for Waterman Building Services. He has also led major multidisciplinary projects in the north across the retail, leisure sectors and energy to waste sectors championing modern methods of construction.

Waterman’s say the appointments recognise the significant achievements of all three leaders, with their new roles allowing them to expand their vision to focus on the business as a whole.

Nick Taylor, Waterman’s chief executive, said: “Mark, Jonathan, and Steven have been instrumental in successfully leading Waterman Building Services in the UK for several years. Their collaborative leadership and approach to clients have gone from strength to strength and been essential through the ups and downs of economic uncertainty. They will continue to remain hands-on at project level and work closely with clients as they aim to raise our profile and expand our portfolio throughout the UK.”

Reflecting on his appointment, Mark Tendrup said: “I’m delighted to take on this new role at a time when there is so much change and opportunity in the construction industry. Tackling some of the major challenges that we face today around the effects of Covid on building design, well-being, digitisation of engineering, will be at the top of our priorities to ensure we continue to provide our clients with a world-class consultancy service.”

Steven Halmshaw said: “I look forward to leading the business with Mark and Jonathan, building on our continued success – focusing on greater operational excellence, partnering with clients, and supporting a great team. These foundations will enable us to expand our portfolio and breadth of sector coverage. Building Services Engineers will have an ever-increasing influence in the future and I look forward to being able to lead the business to produce great engineers creating great buildings. We will look to build and capitalise on our specialisms too, particularly in areas such as modular construction.”
