Atkins works with US Army Corps of Engineers on Middle East infrastructure

Atkins has been selected by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Middle East District to support infrastructure improvement programmes for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a coalition of countries surrounding the Arabian Gulf.

Atkins will assist USACE in support of GCC countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman and Kuwait. Task orders for services will involve master planning, full design, design-build packages, utility surveys, environmental material testing and remediation, lifecycle cost analysis and other services. Atkins may also be involved in the design of facilities and infrastructure associated with the US Defense Department’s Foreign Military Sales programme.

“Through past projects with USACE and in the Middle East, Atkins has demonstrated the expertise and successful track record to deliver critical infrastructure design and other architectural and engineering services to address the needs of the GCC,” said Bill Pearce, senior project director, who will lead the effort for Atkins.

Atkins has worked on several key public infrastructure projects in the Middle East, including providing full multidisciplinary design and management of the civil works of the Dubai Metro. Services included geotechnical and site investigations, bored tunnels, viaducts and bridges, route alignment, environmental impact, noise reduction and landscaping.
