FRIDAY WEBINAR: People, placemaking and regional development

The latest event in our Infrastructure Intelligence Live series is a webinar on the topical issue of placemaking and its role in regional development across the UK.

More and more regional mayors are adopting a ‘people-first’ approach as the best way to make a real and lasting difference to local people’s lives up and down the country. This increasing focus on placemaking and regional development means that the construction and infrastructure sector will need to work in partnership with devolved administrations and local communities, to think more about people and to focus on place rather than just projects.

Putting placemaking at the heart of regional development and the promotion of a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces, means maximising local communities’ assets, inspiration and potential and the creation of public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness, and wellbeing as well as being environmentally sustainable.

This is even more important in a post-Covid landscape. With cities and towns across the UK seeking investment as they recover from the pandemic, investors are increasingly looking to invest in places where people want to live. And people want to live (and increasingly work) in great places and are demanding a higher quality of lifestyle and a better work/life balance. Placemaking is central to the creation of great places and as people exercise greater choice about where they want to live and work, it’s set to become even more important than ever.

This webinar will explore what taking a placemaking approach means for our industry and will showcase some best practice examples from around the UK.
