AECOM suspended from new projects by Qatari client

Consultant AECOM unable to bid for further work from Qatar's Public Works Authority until issues on two landmark schemes are resolved.

Consultant AECOM has been banned from bidding for future work for one of Qatar’s biggest clients over delivery challenges on two of its projects. The firm was informed of the decision on 7 May following an internal circular issued by the Public Works Authority, Ashghal, to its employees notifying them of Aecom’s suspension.

"The suspension follows delivery challenges on two landmark projects currently under construction in Qatar for which AECOM provided design services". AECOM statement

In a statement AECOM confirmed that it would not be able to bid for future work until delivery issues on two major projects were resolved. “AECOM has subsequently met with senior representatives from Ashghal to confirm the suspension follows delivery challenges on two landmark projects currently under construction in Qatar for which AECOM provided design services," it said.

"AECOM has a published action plan with Ashghal to close-out the remaining issues on these two programs working closely with the contractors. The suspension will be revisited once these actions are completed,” the statement added.

The company said that in the meantime it would focus on continuing to support Ashghal in the delivery of their existing programs including Contract 2 on the New Orbital Highway and Qatar Public Realm.

Ashghal is one of Qatar’s biggest clients responsible for roads, drainage systems and public buildings in a portfolio worth over £13bn. This includes upgrading and constructing new major highways throughout the country under its “Expressways” programme, upgrading local roads through its local roads and drainage programme (LRDP) and building a new 40km deep level sewer for Doha requiring 70km of connecting pipework.

The 189km New Orbital Highway is part of the expressways portfolio and has been designed to provide a new link to areas north and south of the capital city of Doha. Bypassing the city it will provide a new link between the new Hamad Port and neighbouring industrial city at Mesaieed in the south with Al Khor in the north. Contract 2 is for a 45 km new dual carriageway that includes eight grade-separated interchanges.

AECOM is also working for a number of other major clients in Qatar including the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy of the 2022 World Cup. Together with Zaha Hadid Architects it is the designer for the Al Wakrah stadium, and it is also project manager for the Al Rayyan stadium for which new designs were revealed in April. It is also the programme manager for the new £4.5bn Hamad Port.

AECOM, one of the best companies in the world has banned from a Qatar. How difficult, is this project? From the other hand we are talking for a very smooth terrain. Bullshit
I am part of AECOM, Doha Qatar and can see the obvious reasons for the suspension for further works with Ashgal. There are some serious management and intra departmental liaison issues. There aren't proper task briefings and people don't know what they are expected to do! I don't believe this the same company that I used to work in the United States!
I promise you Nick and Spyridon AECOM does not deserve even to continuous with any project in the Middle East. The Ruthless company and revengeful. I have no more wishes than seeing the company bankrupt

I think the problem here is the incompetent people working here.
The most important thing to make the project progressive is the Team Work and the smooth effective management System which the Team of AECOM failed to performed, specially Orbital PO23 Project. Lack of proper communications between the Contractors Team and Supervising Consultants Team.
