Cutting through the hype on tech and data

Making important decisions on technology can be a minefield for many construction firms, with hard-sell tactics, jargon and tech that becomes obsolete too quickly all causing problems for the unwary or unknowledgeable.

To help firms cut through the hype around tech and data issues, the Association for Consultancy and Engineering’s (ACE) digital transformation group is publishing a report, Cutting through the Hype, together with five follow-up blogs and a roundtable designed to help business leaders make crucial decisions on technology with confidence.

The knowledge and expertise of consultancy businesses, combined with powerful technology and abundant data are allowing the industry to create more value for clients, owners, operators, investors and society at every stage of the asset lifecycle. However, the reality on a day-to-day basis often means navigating pushy sales pitches, conflicting advice, mountains of jargon and investments that can quickly become out of date.

ACE’s Cutting through the Hype report explores strategy, leadership, agility, capability and outcomes, through a series of ‘deep-dives’ written by industry experts, based on their own experiences and will give a framework for firms to make the right decisions.

To coincide with the launch of Cutting through the Hype, ACE has also convened a panel of experts for what it promises will be a “jargon-free” roundtable discussion. Featuring the chair of ACE’s digital transformation group, Richard Shennan (Mott MacDonald) and guests Steven Hale (Crofton) and Marzia Bolpagni (Mace), the session on Wednesday 2 June 2021 at 12pm will help anyone – digital expert or not – engage with the issues.

Richard Shennan said: “I hope people will join us for our informal discussion as we cut through the hype around digital transformation and innovation. While the opportunities are there to be seized, Cutting through the Hype will help people approach this topic and understand the key pitfalls to avoid as they develop a digital strategy that delivers for their business, benefit-by-benefit.”
