The Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) has appointed Helen Campbell as its new director of strategy, performance and assurance.

Campbell starts her new role today (10.5.21), and joins the IPA with over 13 years of experience in senior roles across National Grid, most recently working as the director of strategy and performance, gas transmission.

Prior to joining National Grid, Campbell held positions in consulting, financial services and energy companies, with extensive experience in strategic change, business planning and transformation programmes.

She will now lead an IPA team that sets the strategic direction for the project delivery system in government, driving improved performance through strengthened project and benchmarking data, cross-government and industry collaboration and rigorous independent assurance of major projects as recently set out in the IPA’s updated mandate.

Nick Smallwood, IPA chief executive and head of the project delivery function, said: “With the publication of the National Infrastructure Strategy and the government’s commitment to build back better, it has never been more important to consistently deliver our major projects successfully. I’m very pleased to welcome Helen into the IPA. Helen, who brings with her a wealth of experience, will play an important role driving improvements to the delivery system and creating a step-change in project delivery performance.”

Looking forward to her new role, Campbell said: “I am delighted to be joining the IPA, at the centre of government, during such a pivotal time. I look forward to working with colleagues from across government to drive improved project delivery performance and support the UK in building back better.”
