Entries are now being sought from across infrastructure, construction and the whole of the built environment for the 2016 Duke of Gloucester's Young Achievers Scheme hosted by the Construction Youth Trust.

The charity, which supports young people to assist their routes into employment and training in the built environment, will reveal and celebrate “the future of the industry” at a gala dinner in the spring.

"The Duke of Gloucester’s Young Achievers Scheme champions young people who have achieved excellence in their careers so far and had to overcome barriers and challenges or social disadvantages" Christine Townley CYT

Speaking after last year’s event, charity chief executive Christine Townley highlighted the critical challenge of finding and bringing the best young talent into the industry from across all regions and social backgrounds.

“Each year the Trust works with over 7,000 young people; many of whom are the hardest to reach. Its mission is to improve the life chances of these young people by exposing them to the wealth of opportunity the construction industry has to offer,” said Townley.

“Part of inspiring the next generation is celebrating this one,” she added. “That’s why the Trust launched The Duke of Gloucester’s Young Achievers Scheme which champions young people who have not only achieved excellence in their careers so far, but who have had to overcome barriers and challenges or social disadvantage to get to where they are."

There are five categories to enter:

One of the category winners is chosen as Overall Winner of the awards scheme. Finalists are judged by a panel of industry experts through a process of presentations and interviews.

The overall winner last year was Dylan Shankland of North Ayreshire Council who was commended for the way he had embraced his career and, despite set backs caused by injury, had pressed on to study towards a professional career in quantity surveying.

This year judges will again be looking for young people who have not only achieved excellence in their careers so far, but who have had to overcome barriers and challenges or social disadvantage to get to where they are. They also look for those who go the extra mile by being involved with activities or initiatives that benefit the community or the construction industry.
