Arcadis has been appointed to support the redevelopment of Tate Liverpool.

The project will involve the reimagining of the public galleries, office, learning, operational, café and retail spaces within the Grade I listed building on Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool.

Following a grant from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund, in May it was announced that 6a architects will lead the design for the landmark project on Liverpool’s historic waterfront.

Arcadis is project managing the scheme, supporting the process of transforming the gallery spaces to meet the scale and ambition of today’s most exciting artists.

Tate Liverpool is housed in an iconic 1846 warehouse that was redesigned by Sir James Stirling and Michael Wilford in the late 1980s as the cornerstone of the reinvention of the Royal Albert Dock.

It helped establish Tate as a pioneer for arts-led regeneration in the UK.

The scheme will involve creating spaces that better connect with the city and its communities, providing an environment that is flexible and inviting and able to host people, art and ideas in equal part.

Ben Small, project director at Arcadis, said: “It is a great privilege to be involved with such an iconic, complex and important commission for Tate Liverpool and the communities it serves locally, nationally and internationally.

“We look forward to drawing on our cultural and heritage expertise along with links across the Liverpool City Region to connect and support Tate Liverpool on all aspects of the commission.”
