RWE named Energy Company of the Year

Renewable energy firm RWE is celebrating after being named Energy Company of the Year 2023.

The company took home the highest honour at S&P Global Commodity Insights’ 25th annual Platts Global Energy Awards in New York City.

In selecting RWE as Energy Company of the Year, the independent panel of judges noted the company’s distinctive total energy strategy.

They praised the company for its adaptability and agility and for responding to the global energy crisis with impactful solutions, while forging ahead with massive investments in clean technologies.

“Starting 125 years ago as a local utility and pioneer of electrification, RWE is today one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies. 

“This award goes to the global RWE team in recognition of the dedication and commitment of all colleagues to driving forward the energy transition while ensuring security of supply.”

RWE’s contribution towards overcoming the energy crisis last year, while at the same time continuing to drive forward the energy transition at high speed, was noted.

The judges recognised RWE’s role in securing the energy supply in the short term – by restarting power plants and expanding its use and by building up LNG infrastructure. 

The judges also recognized RWE’s consistent pursuit of its ‘Growing Green’ investment and growth strategy with billions of investments in creating a sustainable energy system. 

An outstanding achievement during this period was the acquisition of Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses. 

At its Capital Markets Day 2023 at the end of November, RWE announced that it would significantly increase its investments in the energy transition.

S&P Global Commodity Insights honoured organisations and individuals in the energy industry for excellence in 21 categories at the Platts Global Energy Awards Gala in New York City, held on December 7.
